However, with a Roth IRA, the money you deposit is not tax-deductible. When you make withdrawals from your Roth IRA, you pay no federal income taxes on qualified withdrawals. In other words, your money comes out income tax-free.

Coverdell Educational Savings Account (CESA)

The Coverdell Educational Savings Account is a nondeductible account that features tax-free withdrawals for a very specific purpose – a child’s education expenses. Anyone can contribute on behalf of a child under the age of 18. The money grows tax-deferred. A CESA may look similar to Roth IRA’s. Higher education distributions are also permitted from those accounts, but while qualified higher education distributions from Roth IRAs are only penalty tax free, the same distributions from a CESA are penalty free and federal income tax free. Consult your tax or legal professional for further information regarding state or local income tax.

  • No Minimum Deposit
